The beauty industry is flooded with tips, tricks, lotions, potions and daily must-haves for achieving the ultimate ‘glowy, luscious, radiant {insert your preferred adjective here}’ skin.

We’ve got to thinking about some of the more natural and simple ways to improve skin without the use of harsh ingredients.

There are some incredibly easy changes that will start to improve the way your skin looks and feels, and can be incorporated as part of your daily natural skincare routine.

Top tips for healthy skin

Sleep. The biggy. We all know it – getting a decent 8-hours of shut eye a night is one of the simple ways to improve skin. We’ve all had that feeling of looking in the mirror after a night of next-to-no sleep and spotted shopping bag-sized sagging under our eyes and skin that has developed a strange sallow, ashen tone.

When you sleep your body gets to work on repairing itself; it increases blood flow and produces collagen overnight which, in turn, gives skin its firmness (goodbye eye bags) and rosey-coloured ‘plumpness’. Aren’t our bodies marvelous?!

Diet. We’re true believers in what you put in; you get out! Your skin is always regenerating itself, so it rings true that the more you’re feeding your body with nutrients, the better equipped it will be at producing healthy, vibrant skin. Skin-loving vitamins for your diet include:

Vitamin C – used to support the immune system and is wonderful at detoxing the body. It is necessary for the growth and development of body tissues including collagen. Vitamin C is in so many foods; think of incorporating a coloured rainbow of foods into your diet like citrus fruit, melons, strawberries, brassicas, potatoes and leafy greens.

Vitamin E – this can be found in oils, sunflower seeds and almonds. Good for skin, hair and nails, Vitamin E prevents cell damage and promotes healthy skin growth.

Omega-3 – We hear about this one all the time but it’s good to refresh our memories on why it should be included in our diets. Eating foods high in Omega-3 – which is an essential fatty acid that can’t be produced by our bodies – helps to combat skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. It is also said that Omega-3 prevents skin breakouts, improves hydration and minimises wrinkles. Reach out for foods like avocado, chia seeds, linseed and oily fish like salmon and include them in your daily diet as part of your natural skincare routine.

Hydration. Something that we’ve spoken about previously, but…hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Simply, drink plenty of water. When we say ‘plenty’, we mean 2 – 3 litres of water a day. Your skin needs moisture to stay supple.

Don’t like the taste of plain water? Give it a little extra something to suit your taste buds. We like the freshness of ice cool cucumber water or, as summer approaches, throw in a few strawberries, lime and mint to add some extra zing.  Don’t forget that herbal teas also count towards water intake, as well as juicy fruits like melon.

Good skincare. If you’re doing all the above – firstly, well done! The next thing to think about is what goes on your face as part of your natural skincare routine. After exfoliating and cleansing (check out our recent blog on ‘Natural skincare for spring’) think about using a good moisturiser to heal & soothe dry skin and improve skin cell regeneration.

If you suffer from dry skin, particularly on your face, include a vegan moisturiser like our Pure Face Balm, which contains mango seed butter and jojoba oil – both which will rejuvenate dried skin. Perfect Rose contains Vitamin E oil, which, as mentioned, is incredible for skin moistuirisation and promotes healthy cell growth.

Our vegan, plastic-free moisturisers are packed full of rich, healing ingredients such as mango seed butter and jojoba oil, to rejuvenate dry skin. Amongst other things, we also add natural vitamin E oil, which as mentioned, is incredible for skin moisturisation, and promotes healthy skin cell growth.
