Ethical Skincare and The Conscious Consumer
Hello again,
There are moments in a brand’s journey that feel less like milestones and more like quiet affirmations, gentle signals that you are, in fact, walking the right path. Being selected for promotion by the Compassionate Shopping Guide is one of those moments for us at Scence.
From the very beginning, Scence was never just about skincare. It was about questioning the norm. Why does something we use every day come wrapped in plastic that outlives us? Why are “natural” products so often anything but? And why should sustainability feel like a compromise rather than a standard?
We didn’t set out to be perfect, we set out to be better. Thoughtfully better. Radically better, where it mattered most.
So to be recognised by an organisation that exists to champion ethical, sustainable, and genuinely compassionate businesses feels deeply meaningful. The Compassionate Shopping Guide doesn’t just look at what a product does, it looks at how it exists in the world. Its impact, its footprint, its honesty. And those are exactly the questions we’ve always asked ourselves.
Every Scence product begins with a simple intention, to create something effective, beautiful, and entirely free from unnecessary harm. That means no plastic packaging. No hidden ingredients. No greenwashing. Just carefully chosen botanicals, thoughtfully blended, and housed in materials that return safely to the earth.
But this recognition isn’t just about ingredients or packaging. It’s about values. It’s about transparency, integrity, and the belief that small, conscious choices, repeated daily, can create meaningful change.
We know that conscious shopping can sometimes feel overwhelming. Labels are confusing. Claims are everywhere. And it’s not always easy to know who to trust. That’s why guides like this matter. They cut through the noise and shine a light on brands that are genuinely trying to do things differently.
To be included in that selection is something we don’t take lightly.
For us, this moment is not a finish line, it’s a reminder. A reminder to keep asking difficult questions. To keep refining what we do. To stay curious, and to stay accountable. Sustainability isn’t static. It evolves. And so must we.
We’re incredibly grateful to our community, those who have supported Scence, shared our story, and chosen to make small changes in their own routines. You are part of this recognition too. Every purchase, every recommendation, every conversation helps shift the landscape, even if just a little.
And perhaps that’s what this really represents, collective progress. A growing awareness that the things we buy carry weight. That businesses have responsibility. And that change is possible, not through grand gestures, but through consistent, conscious action.
This month we saw World Bee Day and World Turtle Day and I hope that my earlier blog about microplastics was helpful. Next month we have Reef Awareness Day and I will be talking about the impact of sunscreen in the marine environment. Both a comparison between chemical and mineral sunscreen and then a deeper look at how sunscreen affects our oceans and specifically coral reefs.
Being recognised by the Compassionate Shopping Guide tells us that what we’re doing matters. That there is space, and demand, for products that are kind to both people and planet.
And so we continue. Quietly, intentionally, and always with purpose.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
Krista
