We are a hands on team – we make the balms, package and post them to you as well as sharing the other office duties.

We make Scence Natural Skincare by hand and fresh to your order to ensure the finest quality and freshness.

Our ingredients are all natural and nourishing and we have been working for over four years to balance and perfect our formulas. Wherever possible we use organic ingredients and here are some of our favourites, what their properties are and why we use them...

Mango seed butter (Mangifera indica) has skin softening, soothing & moisturising properties. It helps to combat dry skin, eczema and dermatitis. It is helpful in protecting the skin from the weather and UV radiation and is said to be effective at reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It contains anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties, is non-greasy and absorbs easily into the skin.

Our mango butter is from Italy. Cold pressed and rendered from the seed kernel of the Mango tree, this highly prized butter is an exceptional quality base ingredient for body care products. Mango is one of the most important and widely cultivated fruits. Each fruit has a large flat seed. Mango butter is the soft fat extracted from the seed. It is free from pesticides and synthetic anti-oxidants. Unlike other butters, such as shea butter and cocoa butter, mango butter has a wound healing quality. Hence it is used as an application for fissures of the lips, hands and chapped skin.

Illipe seed butter (Shorea stenoptera) Illipe butter is naturally harvested from the nut of the illipe tree grown in the forests  of Borneo. It flowers from October through January and the nuts are collected once they fall to the ground. Illipe butter is renowned for it's incredible moisturising properties and its ability to restore elasticity to the skin.

Jojoba oil (Simmondsia cheninsis) offers hydrating and sebum-balancing properties. It is has a light texture and is compatible with all skin types and has natural antibacterial properties to help keep skin clear and healthy. Certified organic by the Soil Association.

Rosehip seed oil (Rosa canina) is rich in linoleic (omega 6) and linolenic (omega 3) acids, alongside vitamin A, this oil helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles and premature ageing caused by repeated exposure to ultraviolet radiation. It is great in regenerative skincare products as it quenches dry skin and boosts the skin’s overall health. It is a super antioxidant with superior moisturising properties.

Borage oil (Borago officinalis) is a golden yellow coloured oil extracted from the borage wildflower, often referred to as the starflower. This hydrating oil has been used for hundreds of years both internally and topically to treat inflammation. Borage Oil has high levels of Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) which is an essential fatty acid that the body can’t make on it’s own. It replenishes the lipid barrier in the skin, fights dryness and restores elasticity. Certified organic by the Organic Soil Association.

Safflower/thistle oil (Carthamus tinctorius) contains lubricant properties that prompt the skin to retain water and moisture. The oil consists primarily of linoleic acid, an omega-6 that is packed with essential vitamins. Safflower oil prevents dryness and roughness and removes dirt and oil. Its hydrating properties lend skin a healthy glow, promote elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Certified by the Organic Soil Association.

Calendula oil (Calendula officinalis) is extracted from the marigold and has great anti-inflammatory and vulnerary action, making it helpful with stubborn wounds, acne, eczema and related conditions. It helps soothe sore, inflamed and itchy skin conditions. Calendula oil also assists in soothing, and softening skin and we use it in our hand balms to add comfort and healing properties. Our calendula extract is infused in sunflower oil.

Coconut oil (Cocus nucifera) is a wonderful moisturiser and has anti-bacterial properties so we use this in our deodorants and body balms to soften the skin and add a silky glide on application. Certified organic by the Organic Soil Association.

It has calming and stress-relieving qualities and we use it in our rose products as a stand alone essential oil due to it having excellent all round skin loving qualities and a full and comforting aroma profile.

Frankincense essential oil (Boswelia carterii) is the skincare king of essential oils and has been used for centuries as a healing and hydrating oil. It has a fresh aroma with a subtle green-lemon note. We use frankincense in our face balms to boost and hydrate and calm. It is recommended to help reduce fine lines and balance dry skin.

Antiseptic and anti-inflammatory it  is also beneficial for fighting signs of ageing, like wrinkles and dark spots, since it promotes the production of collagen. Certified organic by the Organic Soil Association.

It has a sweet, aromatic and woody balsamic aroma and has harmonising, soothing, calming and grounding effects. Certified organic by the Organic Soil Association.

Petitgrain essential oil (Citrus aurantium) has wonderful antiseptic and deodorant properties and has a bright, orange scent with a woody undertone. Taken from the leaves and green twigs of the plant, it is related to bitter orange and neroli but has its own unique composition.  Like most citrus oils, petitgrain is also great in cleansing formulas. Balancing and toning, it leaves you with a fresh, calm feel on the skin.

Juniperberry essential oil (Juniperus communis) is steam-distilled from the crushed berries and has a fresh, warm, woody-sweet aroma with a hint of pine needle.
